Opening of AchemAsia 2016: “A rare opportunity of communication” for the process industries
Starting from today, China’s National Convention Center in Beijing is once again the meeting point for the process industry in China as the tenth AchemAsia opens its doors. From 9 to 12 May 2016, 295 exhibitors present their innovations, products and technologies in the fields of process and chemical engineering, laboratory, packaging, biotechnology and environmental technology as well as plant engineering and construction.
Due to the challenging economic environment, AchemAsia 2016 cannot match the exhibitor numbers of the previous event, as especially Western companies are currently hesitant regard-ing their engagement in China. With exhibitors from 17 countries and regions, however, the event remains the most international show for the process industries in China. Among the 194 Chinese companies are also some Chinese subsidiaries of international companies, bearing witness to the increasing role of China as a level player on the global market.
The show is supplemented by a congress consisting of several satellite symposia covering hot topics in today’s industry: The impact of web-based intelligence on the petrochemical industry (i), the detection of volatile compounds in petrochemical plants (ii) as well the maintenance of process plants (iii), chemical separation technology (iv), single-use technology (v), bio-corrosion (vii) are topics that have been identified by the organizers and their partners and will be discussed by international experts. A colorful mix of new findings in process technology with presentations from exhibitors who explain their latest product innovations will round off this program.
At the opening press conference, Dr. Thomas Scheuring, CEO of DECHEMA Ausstellungs-GmbH, reflected on the development in China over the more than 25 years that AchemAsia has been present. “I feel personally privileged to be part of the AchemAsia story from the very beginnings, and to have seen this development first-hand. I can honestly say that together with our partners and friends from the supporting institutions we went through many ups and, not surprisingly, also a few downs throughout these years.” He stated that the decrease in per-centage growth rates was expectable regarding the increased economic base. “Actually we still see a sizeable growth in China with growth rates around 6% - 7% which is a figure any fully developed industry nation can only dream about. Unfortunately many Western companies, being spoilt by gold-rush like business opportunities in China, have reduced their China en-gagement under these conditions, as short-sighted this is”, Scheuring said.
Professor Yang Yuanyi, Vice President and Secretary General of CIESC, reflected in this statement on the necessary structural adjustment of the Chinese industry described in the currently released 13th Five-Year-Plan. He expressed his expectation that AchemAsia with the new ideas and concepts would be an inspiration for China’s petroleum and chemical industry. “We believe this exhibition will be a rare opportunity of communication for all exhibitors and visitors and hope that Chinese and overseas companies can further expand two-way investment”, Yang said at the opening press conference.
AchemAsia is the international platform for chemical engineering and process engineering in China. With approximately 300 exhibitors from some 20 countries this is the forum for the exchange of ideas and know-how for professionals from process engineering, apparatus and plant engineering, environmental technology, the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries and related sectors. AchemAsia takes place every three years in Beijing, PR China. It is organized by DECHEMA and CIESC (Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China) in cooperation with numerous Chinese partner organizations
